TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian Quran expert and teacher said Quran contest should serve as opportunities that help qaris and memorizers enhance their Quranic skills.

Heidar Kasmaei

Speaking to IQNA, Heidar Kasmaei, who served as a member of panel of arbiters in Iran’s 45th National Holy Quran Competition, said Quranic contests should not turn into a goal for Quran activists.

These events should be venues for elevating the level of qaris and memorizers and identifying Quranic talents, he said.

They should also encourage the people to read, learn and contemplate the Holy Quran and act upon its teachings, the expert added.

He said the Quran competitions held in Iran over the past years have helped qaris grow and boost in their skills in different areas such as Tajweed.

He went on to say that in addition to Quran competitions, due attention should be paid to other Quranic activities, including educational programs.

As for the 45th edition of the National Holy Quran Competition, Kasmaei said the level of the contest was higher than those in previous editions.

The final round of the competition was held in the southwestern city of Ahvaz back in January.

The contest is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.

It is aimed at discovering Quranic talents and promoting Quranic activities in society.
